46193 (2025). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Which, if any, of the Commerce Commission Governance Review recommendations did Cabinet not decide to progress, and if any, why?
Hon Scott Simpson: The Reviewers considered three structural options to strengthen governance of the Commerce Commission and recommended option three (a new, independent board member who would chair a new Governance and Strategy Committee). Cabinet decided to proceed with option two (a new board and a specialist panel for key regulatory decisions) to align with the governance structures used by the United Kingdom's Competition and Markets Authority and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. Several of the recommendations are still under consideration, while others are to be progressed by the Commerce Commission.
