46146 (2025). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: Were the five boarded-up state housing complexes in Strathmore Park assessed for retrofit and if so, what was the decision on retrofitting?

Hon Chris Bishop: Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that they did consider retrofitting the complexes at Nuku Street and Ngatiapa Street when the original decision was made to redevelop the complexes. The decision was made not to retrofit the complexes as the cost to retrofit was not considered value for money when compared to the cost of redeveloping the site. It would also not have provided the opportunity for mixed typologies for better community outcomes.
