46142 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: Further to WPQ 5644, what progress, if any, has been made in the quarter (January to March 2024) on health promotion work programmes concerning 'first 1,000 days'?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that in the January to March 2024 quarter, Health New Zealand progressed health promotion work programmes focused on the First 1,000 Days, including: • Ongoing work with partners leading community-led wellbeing activities. • Progressed evaluation of the First 1,000 Days programme to demonstrate impact of this investment. • Regular connection with Kahu Taurima and other government agencies to share insights and develop collective action on maternal and child wellbeing. • Ongoing partnership with E Tipu E Rea Whānau Services on a project with a focus on rangatahi experiences of maternal wellbeing and discrimination in pregnancy and parenting. • Completed a draft evidence review of Pacific maternal mental health and wellbeing, and the first phase of report of interactions and engagements with Pacific stakeholders around stigma and discrimination faced by parents in pregnancy and the Early Years. • Supporting the implementation of next steps of an Infant and Maternal Mental Health environment scan • Reviewed and improved sign-up and ordering experiences for community organisations to access toothpaste and toothbrushes for priority whanau.
