46141 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: Further to WPQ 5644, what progress, if any, has been made in the quarter (January to March 2024) on health promotion work programmes concerning 'Alcohol (prevention of alcohol related harm)'?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that during the January to March 2024 quarter, Health New Zealand continued to progress health promotion work programmes covering the prevention of alcohol related harm. This work included the funding of local alcohol harm reduction initiatives. I am further advised that Health NZ worked with the Ministry of Health on New Zealand’s submission to the WHO Global Alcohol survey; worked with the Ministry of Justice on implementation of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol (Community Participation) Amendment Act 2023, and continued engagement and training with regulatory agencies, District Licensing Committees, and cross-government agencies on alcohol harm prevention. In addition, Health NZ continued to make information and resources available to support increased awareness of the harms of high-risk drinking.
