Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made in the quarter January to March 2024 to ‘Engage with HUD, Kainga Ora, and MSD on options to ensure that people with enduring mental illness and addiction problems can access sustainable housing’ under section 2.1 ‘Pae ora Better health in our communities’ within Te Whatu Ora’s Te Pae Tata: Interim New Zealand Health Plan 2022?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised during the January to March 2024 quarter, Health New Zealand continued to work with Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and other agencies on access to sustainable housing for people with serious mental health and addiction issues. I am further advised that Health NZ continues to fund the Rapua Te Āhuru Mōwai Mental Health Transition pilots in the Auckland and Waikato regions. These pilots are a transition programme for people leaving acute mental health and addiction units that ensure they receive housing, mental health and addiction support, and other wrap-around supports according to their needs.
