Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made in the quarter January to March 2024 toward the action ‘Create more industry partnerships’, under ‘Strategic Priority 4:’ within the Ministry of Health’s New Zealand Health Research Strategy 2017 – 2027?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that during the quarter January to March 2024, the Ministry of Health (the Ministry) undertook preliminary industry engagement meetings on the topics of genomics and AI in healthcare, to follow-on from the Long-Term Insights Briefing on Precision Health. Over this quarter, the Ministry also prepared for an AI forum that included industry leaders to share and discuss key principles for the safe and effective adoption of AI within the healthcare sector, which was then held during the following quarter in April 2024.
