45995 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: Did the Prime Minister suggest to the Minister that Lester Levy should be appointed as Commissioner of Health New Zealand, and if so, on what date did this occur?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: The decision to dismiss the board and appoint a commissioner was made by me as Minister of Health under the section 62 of the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Act 2020. Given the magnitude of the decision and the extent of Health New Zealand's financial situation, I sought the advice and support of Cabinet including the Prime Minister before taking this action.
