45910 (2025). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety: Has the Minister seen any forecasts on the amount of sick leave a part-time worker would get, on average, under her proposed changes; if so, what did the forecasts say?
Hon Brooke van Velden: Sick leave will accrue from day one in direct proportion to workers' contracted hours at the rate of 0.0385 hours per contracted hour of work. A part-time worker with 20 contracted hours per week would accrue 40 hours of sick leave per year.
Statistics NZ defines employees working less than 30 hours per week as part-time. Data is not readily available on the average number of hours worked by part-time employees.
