45845 (2025). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Health: What workforce gaps led to the reduction in staffed ICU beds at Christchurch Hospital in early 2025, if any, and is there a timeframe and budget to restore full capacity?
Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that there were no workforce gaps. I am further advised that Christchurch Hospital ICU increased its capacity from 21 staffed beds in 2022 to 24 staffed beds by 2025 as part of our focus on putting patients first and ensuring all New Zealanders have access to timely, quality healthcare.
