45844 (2025). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Health: How many elective surgeries have been outsourced from Christchurch Hospital in 2025 due to ICU bed shortages, if any, and what was the total cost?
Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that no elective surgeries have been outsourced from Christchurch Hospital in 2025 due to ICU bed shortages. However, our Government’s Elective Boost is unlocking capacity in the private sector, delivering more than an additional 16,000 hip, knee, and cataract procedures across the country as part of our commitment to putting patients first and ensuring all New Zealanders have access to timely, quality healthcare.
