45772 (2025). Hon Marama Davidson to the Minister of Corrections: What work, if any, has been taken or is planned to be taken on action 5.1 of Hōkai Rangi?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that the Hōkai Rangi 2019 action 5.1 has been closed. The intent from this action has been incorporated across programmes of work to improve how Corrections collects, records and uses Māori data. I am further advised that Statistics New Zealand is in the process of updating its ethnicity standard. Corrections has not yet implemented the Hōkai Rangi 2019 action 5.1 changes across all of Corrections. However, the updated Statistics New Zealand standard is expected to be mandated for all of government to incorporate. Corrections will implement the Hōkai Rangi 2019 action 5.1 changes across all of Corrections to align with the updated standard. This is also my response to WPQ 45775 (2025).
