45763 (2025). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: How much, if anything, has been spent on fencing and other security measures for boarded-up Kāinga Ora owned houses in the Wellington Region since 1 January 2025 and how does that figure breakdown by month?
Hon Chris Bishop: Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that the cost of boarding up a home or fencing and other security measures is not centrally recorded. Kāinga Ora would have to divert personnel from their core duties to provide the information sought by the Member. In accordance with Speaker’s Ruling 210/6, I consider that the time and expense of answering the Member’s questions, relating to fencing and security measures for boarded-up Kāinga Ora houses is not in the public interest. However, Kāinga Ora has advised me that a property may be boarded-up and potentially require other security measures for several reasons, such as major repairs, fire damage, retrofitting, and prior to demolition. This is also my response for WPQs 45764, 75766, 45768, and 45769 (2025).
