45662 (2025). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister of Education: What was the rationale, if any, for removing Toiora from the senior secondary school Subject List released on 11 September 2025?

Hon Erica Stanford: Toiora (Māori health models) and Te Ao Tū Taua (Traditional Māori Martial Arts) had previously been planned as new Achievement Standards for NCEA Level 2 and 3. The knowledge planned for these Achievement Standards is now being integrated into other knowledge-rich subjects to make sure that they cover relevant knowledge from te ao Māori, including subjects in Te Marautanga o Aotearoa. For example, knowledge of Māori health models is an important part of learning about health in New Zealand. This is also my response to written parliamentary question 45663 (2025).
