45614 (2025). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister of Education: Who, if anyone, did the Ministry of Education consult with in making the decision to remove Social Studies from the senior secondary school Subject List ahead of the Subject List release on 11 September 2025?

Hon Erica Stanford: The Ministry of Education (the Ministry) took a more integrated approach to some of the Year 11-13 subjects than the 2021 NCEA subject list, while ensuring students have diverse opportunities to specialise across the curriculum. The Ministry’s consultation on the Phase | Tūārere 5 curriculum subjects was informed by engagement with the Ministry’s Coherence Group and the Minister’s NCEA Professional Advisory Group, followed by targeted consultation with subject associations. This is also my response to written parliamentary question 45621, 45627, 45628, 45630, 45632, 45634, 45635 and 45638 (2025).
