45516 (2025). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: Further to 33023 (2025), why were no cases of harm to a child in care being investigated by the Oranga Tamariki Child Protection Investigation Unit as of 8 July 2025?

Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised by Oranga Tamariki that as at 8 July 2025, the Child Protection Investigation Unit had been invited to investigate two cases relating to children and young people in care and three relating to children and young people known to Oranga Tamariki. I am further advised that, as the Unit was in the establishment phase at that time, with investigators not starting until August and September 2025, the two cases relating to children and young people in care had not yet commenced.
