45338 (2025). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: How many leases, if any, expired on homes leased by Kāinga Ora from private owners in each of the last five financial years and how many leases, if any, are due to expire in the current year?

Hon Chris Bishop: I refer the Member to the attached table provided by Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities, for a break down of the number of leased properties (public and supported housing) where the lease expired in the last five financial years. Kāinga Ora is working to a portfolio plan where in the current financial year, 275 leases will either expire and not be renewed or will be terminated prior to the expiry, without reducing the total number of the public houses in the Kāinga Ora portfolio. At lease expiry, Kāinga Ora may consider on a case-by-case basis whether it wishes to negotiate an extension of the lease for a further period of time.
