45318 (2024). Greg O'Connor to the Minister of Corrections: What is the proportion of people sentenced to time served, since December 2023 to date, broken by month, by case category, location and court type?
Hon Mark Mitchell: Corrections manages people on sentences and orders at the direction of the Courts and the New Zealand Parole Board. Corrections does not determine whether a person is sentenced to prison or the length of their sentence and does not determine whether someone is remanded in custody, or the length of time they are on remand.
I refer the member to the attached table which provides the proportion of people who were sentenced to imprisonment and immediately released as they had served sufficient time in remand custody to satisfy the requirements of the sentence imposed, broken down by sentencing court, month and offence category.
