45182 (2025). Benjamin Doyle to the Minister of Education: How is the minister ensuring that Māori learners, in both kaupapa Māori and english-medium schools, are receiving equitable access to resources, support staff, and pastoral care, if at all?

Hon Erica Stanford: The Māori Education Action Plan sets out the Government’s approach to lifting attendance and achievement for Māori learners in English medium, Māori medium and kaupapa Māori settings. The Action Plan supports equitable access to education for Māori learners by investing in tailored resources, learning support and workforce development, while aligning with key Education strategies: Ka Hikitia – Ka Hapaitia and Tau Mai te Reo. The Government is also delivering over $100 million in investment through Budget 2025 to ensure more tamariki Māori thrive at school. This investment includes: • $10 million to launch a new Virtual Learning Network (VLN) for STEM education subjects in Kaupapa Māori Māori Medium • $14 million into training and support for up to 51,000 teachers/kaiako in Years 0-13 schools to learn te reo Māori and tikanga • An additional $60 million of ring-fenced funding for Māori Medium and Kaupapa Māori Education property, which will deliver up to 50 new classrooms to support the network. In relation to curriculum updates, Kaupapa Māori and Māori medium settings receive hardcopy resources (as appropriate) and digital access via Tāhūrangi.
