45174 (2025). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister for Courts: What steps, if any, are taken to ensure that children’s mental health and safety are placed at the centre of Family Court decisions involving children?

Hon Nicole McKee: I can advise the member that as a judicial body, the Family Court functions independently from Government, Ministers and officials. The conduct of proceedings, the acceptance and assessments of evidence, and the decisions made are solely at the discretion of the presiding judicial officer. Accordingly, I am not able to comment on judicial decision making in the Family Court.
