45135 (2025). Tangi Utikere to the Minister for ACC: What is the annual cost, if any, to transport a child from Ashhurst to secondary school in Palmerston North (approximately 18kms) and return, by taxi, using ACC transport assistance, for 190 school days per year?
Hon Scott Simpson: ACC advises me the annual cost of transport depends on the child's specific home and school locations, as well as factors like traffic, timing, and vehicle availability. ACC would also consider other transport options, such as buses, ride shares with natural supports, or paying mileage. For a 36km round commute over 190 school days, ACC estimates the cost to be around $20,000 per annum. Any allowance received from the Ministry of Education for school transport would also be deducted from ACC’s contribution.
