44655 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister for Regulation: What work has been undertaken by the ministry to "Raise the capability of those who design and operate regulatory systems" as one of its key functions, if any?
Hon David Seymour: The club-funded Government Regulatory Practice Initiative was transferred from MBIE to the Ministry for Regulation on 1 May 2024, and integrated into the Ministry’s work programme since 1 July. Since then, some existing activities have been reviewed and enhanced; a project to deliver core foundational knowledge to regulatory agencies is progressing, and a new work programme is being scoped. Officials advise the Ministry is partnering with ANZSOG/ANU to support New Zealand regulators to complete The Professional Regulator programme, with a pilot group of 14 starting in July.
