Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: Does he stand by his response to media questions asking whether the number of back-office staff and the number of outsourced personnel has increased since he came to Government “Yes, indeed. That’s what it looks like It’s happened certainly in this recent past”, if so, how many, if any of these outsourced personal are clinical roles, by job title and salary band?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that in the last quarter of the 2023/24 financial year, the outsourced clinical FTE was 1,080.2. I am further advised that in order to standardise the ‘FTE’ capture, Health New Zealand uses a standardised rate table to estimate the equivalent FTE in any given area. As this response is based on financial data, there is no approximate role title available. There is also no salary band equivalent; instead a set average salary of $198,846 for clinical roles is assumed.
