44412 (2025). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Why is the Government's proposed surcharge ban placing transaction costs on retailers instead of the banks?
Hon Scott Simpson: Payment fee structures are complex, and there are multiple fee points along the supply chain. Retailers are the party responsible for decisions about payment surcharges. They incur payment costs, irrespective of the ban, in return for the benefits they receive from accepting scheme payments.
