44382 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made in the quarter (January to March 2024) to ‘(Organisations and vendors) adopt existing HISO standards’ under ‘Horizon One’ of the Data and Information Strategy for Health and Disability: Roadmap 2021-2024?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that during the January to March 2024 quarter, Health New Zealand commenced foundational work to set standards for a core data set for interoperability and a patient summary record. A new release of the SNOMED CT New Zealand Edition was produced to support the adoption of standard coded clinical terms in primary care, hospital emergency departments, and other services. I am further advised that during the quarter: • Standards for structured pathology reporting were published to support the Canshare programme led by the Cancer Control Agency. • Other standards work was overseen by the HISO committee at Health NZ, including a set of new API standards for digital services. • There were two releases to the NZ Health Terminology Service to provide standard code sets for the sector. • Health NZ hosted, with HL7 New Zealand, a well-attended interoperability connection for the health software industry.
