44373 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What actions, if any, have been taken in the quarter (January to March 2024) to implement the recommendation ‘Align Workforce development models of care’ as part of Te Whatu Ora Planned Care Taskforce Reset and Restore Plan?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that during the January to March 2024 quarter, work on the Musculoskeletal (MSK) pathway continued. I am further advised that it is a good example of Health New Zealand designing a national pathway and, in parallel, created a national competencies framework and national learning network to support growing and building the capability of our national physiotherapy workforce. The approach Health NZ has developed through this process works for a number of other pathways or models of care and will support further development in these areas. In addition, I am advised that Health NZ, in partnership with NZOA and NZPSHA, has developed a pilot to provide surgical training opportunities in private hospitals. This approach aligns the need for workforce development with areas of high need. Health NZ is exploring opportunities to expand this approach to other clinical areas.
