44363 (2024). Hon Rachel Brooking to the Minister for Food Safety: Does the Minister believe that the new flat rate Food Act levy of up to $115 per year, per site on thousands of small cafes, restaurants and food retailers will make it more or less likely that those businesses will register under the Food Act, and if less likely, what might be the implications for food safety?
Hon Andrew Hoggard: I do not anticipate that the new Food Act levy will have an impact on the number of registered food businesses. Any food business that trades food must already register under the Food Act 2014 to ensure safety and suitability of food for sale and be subject to regular verification.
