44303 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What actions, if any, have been taken in the quarter (January to March 2024) to implement the recommendation ‘Explore the role of non-hospital follow-up; for example, the role of optometry in follow-up for some ocular conditions’ as part of Te Whatu Ora Planned Care Taskforce Reset and Restore Plan?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that during the January to March 2024 quarter, the Musculoskeletal (MSK) pathway was developed to inform the process of exploring the role of non-hospital follow-up. It is anticipated that optometry is one of the professions where this approach could work. I am further advised that Health New Zealand has since looked at expanding the workforce of allied health professionals that are able to provide FSAs and follow-up care through agreed national pathways.
