44292 (2025). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Justice: Is the minister considering instituting an infringement offence for shoplifting; if so would a conviction for that offence appear on a person's criminal record?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: Yes, I have announced the intention to introduce an infringement offence for shoplifting in retail premises. And no, convictions are not recorded for infringement offences.
