44260 (2025). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: What, in the Minister's view, is the definition of a bank failing "to adequately warn and protect" a consumer from a scam?
Hon Scott Simpson: The banking sector has listed a number of conditions to meet the threshold for the scheme to be enacted, including not issuing pre-transaction warnings or high-risk transactions. I refer the member to “Example 2” released by the banking industry as to how the protections will work in practice (https://nzba.org.nz/banks-step-up-customer-scam-protections-and-compensation/).
