Hon Scott Simpson: Policy decisions on reforming the merger regime were announced on 16 September 2025 as part of the Targeted Review of the Commerce Act 1986. The reforms retain the voluntary merger notification regime but with new powers for the Commerce Commission to call in unnotified mergers and put in place hold-separate orders, where appropriate.
