44219 (2025). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: What recent actions, if any, has the Minister taken to support the Commerce Commission's full regulatory and enforcement tool kit to achieve results for consumers?

Hon Scott Simpson: On 16 September 2025, we announced a comprehensive reform of the Commerce Act to provide the Commerce Commission with more effective powers for merger review and tackling anti-competitive conduct. Additionally, economic regulation of water services have been brought into Part 4 of the Commerce Act 1986 to drive investment and effective delivery of water services, and I have announced my intention to ban surcharges on in-store card payments.
