44218 (2025). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: What specific steps, if any, has the Minister taken to help Kiwi consumers with the cost of insurance?

Hon Scott Simpson: I recognise concerns about insurance sector pricing. I will continue to monitor the sector and will not hesitate to consider action if appropriate. Ultimately, improved competition is needed to put downwards pressure on pricing. That is why this Government has a wider programme of work underway to improve competition across the economy, including an economy-wide review of New Zealand’s competition settings as set out in the Commerce Act 1986.
