44131 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Associate Minister of Health: What advice, if any, has the Minister received on the use of nicotine products such as ‘snus’ that may increase the risk of certain cancers?

Hon Casey Costello: I received advice from the Ministry of Health on 2 February 2024 regarding smokeless tobacco and nicotine products. This advice noted that use of Swedish-type snus, a tobacco product for oral use, is less harmful than smoking, but may increase the risk of certain cancers.
