44032 (2024). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: How many children, if any, did Oranga Tamariki consult with regarding the potential for them to participate in the pilot military-style academy?

Hon Karen Chhour: No children will be participating on the Pilot. Note the Oranga Tamariki Act defines ‘child’ as a person under the age of 14 years. Ten young males aged 15 to 17 (at the time of offending) who are already in youth justice facilities will begin the Military-style Academy Pilot on 29 July 2024.
