43995 (2024). Ingrid Leary to the Minister of Health

43995 (2024). Ingrid Leary to the Minister of Health: Does the Minister agree with psychiatrist Professor Marie Bismark, speaking on Radio New Zealand, that "it's hard to see how the board of a large health sector organisation can function and fulfil its role, without having a well-functioning clinical quality committee" and if not, why not
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that arrangements to ensure clinical quality are fundamental to health services delivery and, as such, Health New Zealand understands my expectation for such arrangements to be in place.
There have been recent changes in governance arrangements, including stopping the previous Board’s clinical quality committee, although this in no way changes the criticality of Health New Zealand having appropriate arrangements in place.
I am aware that the new Commissioner has also requested regular updates on the quality and safety of services, which relevant Health NZ leaders will provide to him.
