43991 (2024). Ingrid Leary to the Minister for Seniors: Does the Minister agree with Ngaire Kerse, the president of New Zealand Association of Gerontology and the Joyce Cook Chair in Ageing Well at University of Auckland that (elder) abuse will increase as the population ages, especially if population ageing is rapid (ie, ageing is happening faster in Asian, Pacific and Māori populations); if so, what, if anything, will she do to address this?
Hon Casey Costello: I would caution that there is a difference between elder abuse becoming more prolific, as opposed to more people being impacted as our population ages.
