Hon Phil Twyford to the Associate Minister of Immigration: Based on the 2022 costs of increasing the Refugee Family Support Category from 300 to 600, and adjusting for inflation/changes and estimates of attrition across RFSC registration, what is the estimated cost to clear the RFSC backlog?

Hon Casey Costello: There is no fixed timeline to clear the volume of on hand RFSC registrations and applications, as new registrations and applications will continue to flow into the system under Tier 1 of the category. Registrations are selected from the Tier 1 queue in the order they are entered. If there are remaining places after all Tier 1 registrations have been selected, registrations from the Tier 2 queue are then selected. For the above reasons, and in view of the substantial variables associated with future direct and indirect costs involved in delivering the RFSC, it is not feasible to provide an indicative cost to decide and resettle the current RFSC caseload with a reasonable degree of accuracy.
