43963 (2024). Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister of Climate Change: What advice, if any, has he received regarding policies to mitigate the regressive cost-of-living impacts on households due to the impacts of the Emissions Trading Scheme, listed by title and date?
Hon Simon Watts: I have received two briefings related to the need to mitigate distributional impacts of climate change:
28 February 2024 - BRF-4354 Meeting legal requirements for mitigating distributional impacts in ERP2
27 March 2024 - BRF-4502 Managing the impacts of policies in the second emission reduction plan
These briefings provided advice on the overall approach to analysing and managing expected distributional impacts of emissions reduction policies, including the emissions trading scheme. These briefings had limited advice on specific policies to manage the expected impacts of emissions reduction policies. More advice on options for managing the expected impacts of emissions reduction policies, including the emissions trading scheme, are expected as we develop more information on those expected impacts, and in advance of the finalisation of the second emissions reduction plan.
