43960 (2024). Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister of Climate Change: What active engagement with iwi and Māori is planned on the draft Second Emissions Reduction Plan consultation, if any, so that “[the Government considers] their rights and interests and can develop solutions in partnership,” as per the draft Plan?
Hon Simon Watts: Engagement is currently underway with Māori and iwi in developing the second emissions reduction plan. I have met with the National Iwi Chairs Forum (NICF) to discuss this work amongst other priorities in February and May of this year during the NICF quarterly hui. During the consultation period several meetings with Post-Settlement Governance Entity representatives are scheduled to discuss the areas of the discussion document groups have identified they are interested in. Further engagements may be scheduled depending on the availability and interest of stakeholders. An open online event is scheduled for Wednesday 7 August 2024 to discuss what the proposed policies might mean for iwi and Māori communities, and to seek feedback. Specific questions in the discussion document also seek this feedback and it will be considered in developing the final plan.
