43899 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Associate Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made in the quarter January to March 2024 on the action ‘Increase investment to grow the number of Māori researchers working in mate wareware’ under the objective ‘Strengthen leadership and capability across the sector’ within Te Whatu Ora’s Improving Dementia Mate Wareware Services in Aotearoa New Zealand Action Plan?
Hon Casey Costello: I am advised during the January to March 2024 quarter, the Health Research Council’s Ngā Kanohi Kitea Community Advancement Fund opened for applications. This fund provides opportunities for iwi, hapū, other Māori organisations, and Māori researchers or research teams to undertake self-identified health research that can make a direct and significant difference to the health and wellbeing of their communities.
I am further advised that as of July 2024, there are three HRC-funded Māori-led research contracts underway with a focus on dementia/mate wareware.
