43851 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What actions, if any, have been taken in the last quarter (January to March 2024) to implement the recommendation ‘Ensure ethnicity information is accurately collected and presented in accordance with HISO standards’ as part of Te Whatu Ora Planned Care Taskforce Reset and Restore Plan?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that during the January to March 2024 quarter, Health New Zealand continued to use the formal HISO level 2 standards (standards for the collection of consumer and health practitioner identity data). Using Pacific peoples as an example, level 1 reporting would be 'Pacific', whereas level 2 reporting has more detail (e.g., if a person is from Tokelau, Samoa, Tonga, etc).
I am further advised that as Health NZ continues to develop its national systems, it will be able to develop deeper understanding of ethnicity in line with HISO standards.
