43843 (2024). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: Has the Minister received any advice or modelling on the impact that not having rail-enabled ferries for the Cook Strait would have on New Zealand’s freight capacity?

Hon Simeon Brown: I received an Aide Memoire from the Ministry of Transport on 6 December, which included advice on the advantages and disadvantages of a rail-enabled ferry on Cook Strait. This advice is now publicly available, and further reports will be proactively released once the Government has made decisions relating to the future provision of Cook Strait ferry services.
