43838 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What actions, if any, have been taken in the last quarter (January to March 2024) to implement the recommendation ‘Review the ongoing requirements for national data governance and data quality management systems to provide assurance of the quality and completeness of national collections data’ as part of Te Whatu Ora Planned Care Taskforce Reset and Restore Plan?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that during the January to March 2024 quarter, Health New Zealand took the following actions to review national data governance and data quality management systems:
• A visual comparison was deployed for districts to check their ESPI 2 data in a central repository against what had been submitted to the National Collection.
• Work started on a Health Data Governance Framework.
• A nationally consistent approach was developed for planned care reporting.
• Sector meetings were initiated to understand the challenges and bottlenecks with collating and reporting data to national collections.
• A new National Patient Management System User Group was established to resolve issues and ensure definitional consistency.
• Dashboards are now being collated each week to show completeness for each of the national collections, and to ensure follow-up to support districts as required.
• A formal approval process for quarterly measures reporting was agreed and introduced.
