43831 (2024). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: What advice or modelling, if any, has the Minister received regarding the ability of the two ships contracted through Project iReX to navigate any part of the return journey from Picton to Wellington?

Hon Simeon Brown: Asset specifications by any State Owned Enterprise is operationally independent of Ministers. I am advised KiwiRail undertook Tory Channel Risk Reviews in 2020 and 2021 as part of determining the ship specifications, which found there were no additional risks relating to Tory Channel associated with the then-proposed introduction of larger ferries.
