43791 (2024). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: Further to the answer to Written Parliamentary Question 39177 (2024) what, if anything, will Oranga Tamariki do if a young person already in a youth justice residence, or their family, does not choose to participate in the military-style academy?
Hon Karen Chhour: Any young person who withdraws their agreement to participate will be supported to exit the Military-Style Academy Pilot but will remain subject to the Supervision with Residence Order within a Youth Justice Residence until the completion of that sentence.
A young person who fails to meet the conditions of their Order, including completion of the Miliary-Style Academy Pilot, where this is specified, may be subject to review by the Youth Court.
All reasonable steps will be undertaken to maintain participation of family where possible, with the young person’s wellbeing at the centre of any decisions regarding continuation of their involvement.
