43613 (2024). Tamatha Paul to the Minister of Housing: How many houses, if any, does the Government expect or plan to complete building in the 2026/27 financial year, broken down by public housing, transitional housing, Kiwibuild, and market built?
Hon Chris Bishop: As announced in Budget 2024, the Government has committed to an additional 1,500 social housing places by June 2027.
The timing of the delivery of these places is currently being worked through by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development with the Community Housing sector, so the exact number of houses to be delivered in the 2025/26 and 2026/27 years respectively cannot be answered at this time.
The Government is not currently funding the building of new Transitional Housing, with any new places brought into service being secured through leasing from the private market.
There are 88 Kiwibuild homes and 6 market homes under construction or contracted to be completed in the 2026/27 financial year.
