43558 (2025). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Local Government: How, if at all, will his Local Water Done Well policy address the issues of fragmented delivery of water services and the variation in affordability of services across the country?

Hon Simon Watts: There is unprecedented consolidation in the water sector with 38 councils creating multi-council water services council-controlled organisations resulting from the Local Water Done Well policy. Several other councils are open to further consolidation in future. Local Water Done Well gives councils the choice of water service delivery models that best suit their communities while achieving financial sustainability.
