43435 (2025). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister for Ethnic Communities: What considerations of ethnic communities, if any, does the Minister and/or Ministry for Ethnic Communities provide in their advice to the Government on the New Zealand Order of Merit nomination process?

Hon Mark Mitchell: The New Zealand Royal Honours, including the New Zealand Order of Merit, are administered independently by the Honours Unit within the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. I am advised that the Ministry for Ethnic Communities (the Ministry) does not provide input concerning ethnic communities into the Royal Honours nomination process. Where I submit a nomination, the Ministry supports me in preparing that nomination for submission by my office. Any member of the public may submit a nomination for a Royal Honour.
