43402 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Statistics
Written Question

43402 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Statistics: What consultations are the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, planning to open on the week beginning Monday 1st September 2025 with employees around any changes to employment roles, employment numbers and any other employment conditions, and what is the proposed net change in roles?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that Stats NZ announced its change proposal to affected staff on 2 September 2025, with the proposal released to all staff across the organisation from 3 September 2025. Consultation on the proposal is scheduled to close on 19 September 2025.
I am further advised that the proposal outlines a move towards a centralised core function for learning, capability, and development - intended to support a more strategic and integrated approach to professional development across Stats NZ. The proposal includes the disestablishment of nine roles, two of which are currently vacant, and the creation of one new role. In addition, six other roles would be subject to minor changes, such as adjustments to job titles or reporting lines.
This is also my response to written parliamentary question 43404 (2025).
