Hon Tama Potaka: I am advised that the Department of Conservation has worked closely with husbandry experts at the Dunedin Botanic Garden Aviary and wildlife veterinarians from Dunedin Wildlife Hospital to implement actions to reduce the expression of Charlie’s long-standing abnormal behaviours. Based on recommendations from an animal welfare professor, these actions have focused on minimising disturbance to Charlie, keeping her physical and social environment as constant as possible, and providing regular opportunities for positive human interaction with her keepers.
